JOB OPPORTUNITY
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The Director of Development provides resource development expertise to ensure the financial security, sustainability and growth of the Barnstable Land Trust. The main focus of this position is to ensure that one staff person is focused solely on fundraising. The primary goal is the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy.
BARNSTABLE LAND TRUST
The Barnstable Land Trust is a private, non-profit conservation and preservation organization that acquires and protects natural resources of the town of Barnstable.
Our key areas of programs and services are the acquisition and protection of land; fundraising and membership development activities; and land stewardship.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and implement the annual Resource Development Plan (Renewals and Annual Appeal)
Develop and implement Special Project giving programs and Major Donor Program:
- Fundraising events
- Direct Mail appeals
- One on one
Provide staff support to the Resource Development Committee and various fundraising teams (special project campaigns, special events)
Provide leadership and guidance for Board fundraising and development training
Direct and execute grant writing campaign
Assist with marketing campaigns, public relations and community outreach
Oversee the acknowledgement of all donations
Expand annual member giving (individuals and business)
Develop and implement a new Planned Giving Program
Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors
The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director and works directly with:
- Volunteer teams
- Board Members
- Resource Development Committee
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
College degree preferred
Experience in fundraising field (preference given to environmental fundraising experience)
Successful Resource Development experience with non-profit organizations
Strong grant writing experience
Demonstrated abilities in leadership and program development
Ability to educate – good communication skills (both written and verbal)
Impeccable computer skills
Solid organizational skills
Able to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines
Experience working with volunteers
Commitment to the mission of the organization
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Experience developing media presentations and public service announcements a plus
