Friday, November 6, 2009
St. Peter's Episcopal Church,
Osterville
More than 80 people attended Barnstable Land Trust’s 26th Annual Meeting. Executive Director Jaci Barton reviewed the year’s accomplishments and acquisitions, noting that BLT now has preserved 755 acres within the Town of Barnstable!
Election of board members and officers
In addition, the new slate of board members and officers was elected, including the election of Carol Carter (left) as Board President. Meet the new board…
Presentation of the Founders' Award
BLT presented its 2009 Founders’ Award to Cummaquid resident Susan Nickerson (right), staunch environmentalist and Executive Director of the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association. The Award is given annually to “an individual, organization, business or governmental agency for having the vision to empower the people of Barnstable to preserve the essence of Cape Cod – its open spaces and natural resources, wetlands, woodland and wildlife.” Sue Nickerson fits that description in both her professional and personal life.
A Tribute to Jaci
Barton
A second extraordinary environmentalist was also honored at the meeting. Outgoing President Joe Hawley presented a tribute to Jaci Barton, who begins her 25th year at the BLT helm in 2010. “Jaci has led this organization through a period of growth and accomplishment,” Joe said. “From [its] modest beginnings, the one constant has been Jaci Barton.” In honor of her service, Jaci was presented with an original painting of one of BLT’s most cherished holdings, beautiful Meadow Point in Cotuit.
